After realizing that comprehensive data had never been previously compiled, Mike Lynch spent more than a decade researching basketball’s most exciting play: the game-winning buzzer-beater. In this talk Lynch, Sports Reference’s Data Director, will share some of his motivations for researching every such shot in NBA history, chronicle the struggles in building the dataset and highlight some of the interesting findings.
