Wyc Grousbeck became Lead Owner, Governor and CEO of the Boston Celtics in 2002. In 2008, the Celtics won their 17th championship, beating the Lakers by 39 points in the final game. Wyc is on the Executive, Media, and Labor Relations Committees of the NBA.
Wyc is also a venture investor; tequila entrepreneur; co-creator of an NBC sitcom; drummer and guitarist; and charitable supporter.
He co-founded Causeway, a venture firm managing $335 million, focusing on sports and technology. Causeway’s investments include QuintEvents, SeatGeek, Zwift and Flosports.
Wyc and his wife Emilia Fazzalari co-founded Cincoro Tequila with three other NBA owners: Michael Jordan (Charlotte Hornets), Jeanie Buss (LA Lakers), and Wes Edens (Milwaukee Bucks). Cincoro launched in 2019 and has sold 2 million bottles to date.
Wyc recently wrote the original treatment for a sitcom that NBC is filming for release in fall 2023. The show, entitled “We Thought We Were Done”, stars Jon Cryer, Abigail Spencer and Donald Faison. It explores the ups and downs of an amicably divorced couple whose lives become more complicated, and funnier, when the ex-wife begins dating the owner of the ex-husband’s favorite sports team.
Wyc is drummer and rhythm guitarist for the rock band French Lick, who have recently supported Lenny Kravitz, Flo Rida, Barenaked Ladies, and Joan Jett among others.
Wyc is the former Chair of Mass Eye and Ear, a world leader in fighting blindness and deafness. He raised over $250 million for the institution. He and Emilia also support the Celtics Shamrock Foundation, Boston Children’s Hospital, Boys and Girls Clubs, Make-a-Wish, and Robin Hood.
Wyc attended Princeton University (BA,1983), where he rowed on an undefeated crew that claimed the national championship; the University of Michigan (JD, 1986); and Stanford Business School (MBA, 1992).
