NIL and the transfer portal have effected a state change for recruiting across collegiate athletics. Division I women's volleyball comprises about 6,000 student-athletes, and almost 1,000 of them enter the transfer portal each year. A coaching staff can't effectively scout that many players by traditional means. To highlight top performers across the NCAA, we use touch-by-touch event data to evaluate the core skills (serve, receive, set, attack, block, dig) all using the same units of Points Gained. Strength-of-schedule adjustments help us identify standout performers from smaller conferences and contextualize their performances relative to players already competing on the biggest stage.
