Dean Oliver spurred the basketball analytics movement with his 2004 book, Basketball on Paper. He has since worked in NBA front offices and as an assistant coach, incorporating analytics into the decision-making process. He also built ESPN’s analytics group that created the College Football and Basketball Power Indexes, as well as QBR. His new book documenting some of his experiences and practices from working in the NBA, Basketball Beyond Paper, will be available in Fall 2024.
