Senior Director, Referee Operations, NBA
Matthew Futterman is a Senior Director in Referee Operations for the NBA where he oversees all department systems and innovation efforts. He created and now leads the NBA’s Referee Engagement & Performance System (REPS), which was named the winner of the Innovation of the Year award at the 2022 Sports Technology Awards, presented by the STA Group in London. Now in his eleventh season with the league office, he played a key role in the 2020 NBA Season Restart “Bubble” in Orlando, FL, multiple NBA All-Star Weekends, and assisted with the 2023 Team USA Basketball Men’s World Cup Team.
Matthew began his career in sports as a team attendant with the New Jersey Nets during the 2008-09 NBA season. He graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Sport Management and earned his MBA from Saint Joseph’s University.
