Data science is one way for higher education institutions to expand the reach of computing to its students and meet growing industry demand for data skills. This talk provides lessons learned and key takeaways from the Data, Analytics, Technology and Athletics “DATA Bulls”, an applied data science project for undergraduate students built around sports analytics. The DATA Bulls utilized sports technology to generate high-quality tracking data and cultivate a living lab environment with coproduction of innovation among students, faculty, coaches and athletes.
