Grant Son

Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Sports Management and Entrepreneurship, Columbia University

About

Grant Son is full-time faculty at Columbia University, teaching graduate-level courses in the discipline of Sports Management and Entrepreneurship. Professor Son's courses include sports entrepreneurship, supervised research with the NFL, and supervised research with FC Bayern Munich. In addition, Son is CEO of Greater Good Ventures, a firm he founded in 2009 that serves as venture partner working with early stage startups to large corporations to launch new ventures, transform businesses for rapid growth and drive business success. As CEO, Son grew a previous startup into a top-10 sports technology company acquired by ESPN. His professional experience includes over 30 years of marketing, e-commerce and digital media work at iconic brands including the NFL and Sports Illustrated.

Professor Son is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Business School. His published applied research includes co-author of a Harvard Business School case study on R/GA and the LA Dodgers and the launch of the Global Sports Venture Studio. He has also written case studies for classroom use covering the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, MLB, DAZN, Dapper Labs, FC Bayern Munich, LaLiga, Fanatics, Medium Rare, Dwyane Wade, Naomi Osaka, and TikTok.

At the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, professor Son serves as judge for startup competition and the research paper competition. Son also serves as a judge for startup competitions at Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Cornell Tech.
